Railroad worker with Pulmonary Fibrosis by: Anonymous
My husband has been working for the railroad for about 36 years and he was diagnosed two years ago with pulmonary fibrosis. We thought he was going to be okay after having his biopsies they congratulated him and told him that he had the "good" kind if there is such a thing. We recently found out the the disease has started to progress and they say that on his next visit after 6 mos, he will be put on the list for a transplant if it has progressed more. We were affected by the flood back in September and somehow, I feel that from the stress of this and all of the chemicals that we had to use to clean with probably aggravated it and caused it to start progressing again, maybe he was exposed to some mold too? I have recently been told to try Silver Shield, a natural remedy that kills bacteria. They suggested to put it in a nebulizer and let him use it atleast 3 times a day. Has anyone tried or heard of this treatment. I am willing to try anything for him. We just found out we are expecting our first grandchild and I really want him to be around a good while longer!

ipf by: jim carson
Tammy, I too have worked on a railroad for 33 years and just found out last year I have ipf. From what they are telling me, I've had it for some years now. I myself can not think of ever having been exposed to anything that would of caused this except working on the railroad and being exposed to diesel fumes. I don't know what railroad your dad worked for but, the one I work for has a lot of old engines that smoke a lot and we are exposed to a very lot of diesel fumes it would be interesting to find out how many railroad workers have ipf. If I can be any help feel free to contact me jlc1948@comcast.net

LUNG FIBROSIS by: Anonymous
My dad has this disease. He has been told that he wouldn't have got it from working down the mine. I FIND THIS HARD TO BELIEVE.
