Overwhelmed with choices

I am male and was diagnosed several years ago with osteoporosis. For me it is a genetic disorder inherited from my family. My Grandmother had it, Mother, sister, etc. My testoterone is fine. I was put on Actonal for a couple of years and seemed to stabalize things until it stopped working. Next I was put on another similar product which didn't seem to help. Now after my latest bone density test the specialist (MD) has alerted me that I have severe bone loss in my spine (3) and hips (2.5). I have been taking a product for several months from a company called "New Chapter" which is a product similar to what you recommend. The calcium (770 MG) comes from Algae as well as the Magnesium (58 MG), it also has natural Strontium (5 MG) plus D3, K1, K2, Silica, Vanadium, Org barley grass, Org gum acacia, sunflower oil, and Bacillus subtilis natto extract. I showed this to the doctor and she didn't like the Strontium (telling me she would never take that). I also have another product from "Garden of Life" which is called "Raw Grow Bone- Vitamin Code." This product guarantees bone density increase or will pay for the bone density test. There again this product has Strontium in it and she wouldn't recommed that. She did recommen a product called "Prolia" (Sp?) which is an injection taken every six months. I agreed to take this but as it turns out it is only approved for women and I would have to pay out of pocket for it until it becomes approved. So that put me back to her first suggestion which is a once a year half hour injection of a product I believe is called " Reclast" which is suppose to aide in preventing fractures. I have also started taking a liquid calcium/mangesium supplement with what it calls "elemental" calcuim. It has about a 2:1 ratio of calcium and magnesium plus D.
I have to make a decision asap about the injection. I like the sounds of your protocol, even though it sounds pretty rigorous and I don't know the cost. I am pretty much willing to try anything to restore strength to my bones. I have had an active healthy life so far and I am 62 and I hope to follow on this path for a lot longer. I am vegetarian and have been for 30 years. I walk regularly and spend time each day with prayer and meditation.
Please advise soon.
Thanks,
Barry

Barry, sorry to take so long to get back to you. Fundamentally, the drugs that the doctors recommend don't work well, and can even make things worse in the long run. None of the alternative MDs, who don't buy into just doing what the drug companies tell you to do, recommend any of them. Do a search on the ones you are considering. Reclast is similar to Fosomax, it prevents the breaking down of bones by stopping the production of Osteoclasts. So your old bones cells don't get broken down and your bones become brittle. Not good.
The New Chapter product doesn't have a good ratio of calcium to magnesium, not enough magnesium by far, with only 58 mg of magnesium and 770 of calcium. In addition, while strontium is decent to do, not great, but good, contrary to what your doctor said, it should not be taken at the same time as calcium as they compete for the same receptor sites.
The calcium in the Garden of Life bone product is the same algae calcium as is in MineralMatrix8. However, alone it does not provide enough magnesium to have a good calcium magnesium ratio. It is low in magnesium. Additional magnesium is added to the MineralMatrix8 to give it a better ratio. In addition, for best results you do need to more vigorously improve magnesium levels in the body by using magnesium with no calcium for several months. The Grow Bone program also does not contain the accelerators for improving bone density by instructing the body to do just that. There are numerous restrictions on the guarantee with this Grow Bone program. It may be that most folks would not ultimately quality for the guarantee.
The protocol outlined in this site is expensive. You can certainly pick and choose what you want to use. GetHealthyAGainStore.com offers a combo at a big discount to help make the whole protocol more affordable. Their guarantee has far fewer restrictions, just don't be using drugs that dissolve bones.
Good luck with whatever you do.
