Help For Hypertension

Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, takes different forms; Primary, in which no medical cause can be determined and Secondary hypertension which has known causes connected to conditions affecting the kidneys, arteries, endocrine system or heart.

Unchecked, hypertension can lead to stroke, myocardial infarction, aneurysm, kidney failure, heart failure and/or a shortened life span.

Adults are generally affected with hypertension but adolescents and children are increasingly becoming hypertensive.

Most cases of hypertension do not have a direct cause but rather, they have common contributing factors. Obesity, being sedentary, high salt and alcohol intake, stress, potassium deficiency, family history, metabolism abnormalities, kidney malfunction, vitamin D deficiency are some of the factors involved.

Generally, a "normal" blood pressure reading would be right around 120/80. A pressure reading above 120/80 would be considered prehypertensive, above 140/90 is considered stage 1 hypertensive and above this reading would be stage 2.

The higher the pressure on a consistent basis, the more damage is being done and the sooner one needs to take corrective action.

Several steps can be taken to help lower the blood pressure if it is at a critical point.

Stress reduction is one of the most important life style changes that a hypertensive person can make. Identifying the sources of ones stress and altering them or even eliminating them if possible would be a great first step.

Taking part in therapeutic classes such as yoga and using products meant to help with stress reduction is an excellent stress reduction tool.

One product that we've found lately is the Sound Therapy CD. This 15 recording is meant to be listened to every day over a period of a couple of months. This therapy CD is a recording of tones created by tuning forks which are made of an aluminum alloy, designed to produce rich harmonics and overtones characterized by warmth and depth. The vibrations from the tuning fork create a tone known as the 'fundamental note'. Basically, when two tuning forks vibrate together, it creates a pattern containing two vibrational frequencies. The first harmonics and overtones the 'partial', vibrates exactly twice as fast as the fundamental note. The second three times as fast as the first, and so on. The brain hears not only the two frequencies, but also a third frequency – the actual difference between the two frequencies, plus all of the resulting harmonics and overtones, a complex 'sound bath' is administered, helping to synchronize both hemispheres of the brain.

One study observed by Dr. N. Gupta of the Diabetes and Hypertension Center and conducted at the Emory University Hospital in May of 2008, used a Sound Therapy CD with 12 hypertensive subjects. The results were impressive. After listening to the CD for 15 minutes and taking readings before, during and after its use, the average drop in blood pressure was 22.83 points or, an 18.46% drop. Every patient showed a decrease in pressure. What was also quite interesting is that each patients Systolic (during the heart beat) pressure and Diastolic (in between beats) pressure dropped in accordance with it's need. In other words, if the Systolic pressure was farther off of normal than the Diastolic, the Systolic dropped more in relation to the Dystolic.

These results were achieved with only a 15 minute session. Used daily, this therapy could have an impressive therapeutic effect on hypertension.
