Avoid Boniva

by Sharon
(West Palm Beach, FL)

I was diagnosed with osteopenia late in 2010. My doctor prescribed once-a-month Boniva. I had seen the TV commercials for Boniva many times and, unfortunately, because of the ease with the once-a-month dosage, I decided to try it. I was on Boniva for six months, hoping that the side effects that I was experiencing would diminish with time. However, they just got worse. Finally, after six months I decided to discontinue Boniva and take my chances. While on Boniva, I constantly felt "ill." I spent those six months feeling like I was coming down with the flu. I was always tired, my arms and legs felt heavy and ached, and I started experiencing acid reflux and indigestion like I could not believe -- all of which made me very depressed. No matter what I ate, my digestive system was rejecting it. I could not sleep because of the acid reflux (which we now know could lead to additional complications over time). I started taking all types of over-the-counter medications to help relieve my discomfort, but even that wasn't helping. Once I made up my mind to stop this medication, my symptoms disappeared, except for the digestive problems, which, due to my exteme attention to my diet and my losing a few pounds, has improved a great deal. I WOULD NEVER IN THIS LIFETIME EVER RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO ANYONE. I feel that my body was totally rejecting this product. I can't even imagine the devastation that this product would cause to someone's health over a period of years. Do yourself a favor and look for an alternate solution to bone loss.
